European design contest 2011 – Urban Beautiful

4. 7. 2011

The 2011 theme, Urban Beautiful, was based on the inspiring and powerful urban jungle. It was meant to use bold, large crystals in mesmerising combinations of geometric forms. Mix them with chains, metal and crystal mesh in a deeply powerful palette of colours, such as amethyst, crystal night, montana and dark indigo. And finally blend it into the slick city architecture, with sharp, audacious lines – create your unique avant-garde style! This was a fabulous chance for designers to give expression to their creative talents and inspiration in this 2011 European design competition organised by E-Beads and SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS.

I participated in this contest with my piece: Hollywood star – that you can see on my welcome page. “Trees are the often forgotten but essential part of our Cities. They are the "green" lungs, the extra filter for humanity against the pollution created by urbanization.

Hollywood has become the "Green " City of Los Angeles. In recognition I designed this piece envisioning a glamorous Hollywood star, walking the red carpet in a stunning golden evening gown wearing this elegant yet simple necklace. Sometimes less is just more - the chaos of urbanization.

The jury panel made up of Annabel Sykes, Director for I-Beads, Laura Brocklebank of Swarovski, Designer Andy Farrow and Della Tinsley co- Director of London Jewellery Week, have convened at Swarovski head offices to choose out of more than 400 designs the 20 semi-finalists whose designs were displayed at Treasure during London Jewellery Week from 6 – 12 June, 2011. http://www.urbanbeautiful.com/en/semi-finalists/

Unfortunately this year my design did not make it under the top three – as the winners have translated the theme at higher level. But of course, the principal is to participate – what I will of course do again in 2012!
